Embodiment Construction

[0012] The applicant has found that a simple and stable combustion process is obtained when oxygen and sulfur-containing gases are discharged separately in the combustion space. Because no pre-mixing zone is used, the risk of explosion is avoided. Further, no heat exchange enhancing structures such as ceramic beads or fluidized beds are required in the combustion space. By discharging the gases at relatively high velocities, good mixing and heat exchange are achieved. By performing combustion at the required temperature, flameless combustion is achieved. This avoids higher flame temperatures, thereby reducing the formation of nitrogen oxides.

[0013] The gaseous feed of sulfur compounds will have a sulfur compound content of less than 5 vol.%, preferably less than 2 vol.%. The sulfur compound content may be higher than 30 ppmv. The gaseous feed may also include carbon dioxide and / or gaseous hydrocarbons such as methane, ethane and propane. Such gases may include off-gase...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a process flow for treating a gaseous feed containing sulfur compounds to obtain a sulfur compound depleted gas by: combusting the sulfur compound containing gas to obtain a sulfur dioxide containing gas; and subsequently separating sulfur dioxide from the gas, thereby obtaining a sulfur compound-depleted gas. Combustion is performed by discharging to the combustion space: (i) one or more oxygen-containing gas streams having a temperature between 150 DEG C and 550 DEG C and a gas velocity of at least 25 m / s and being discharged via one or more first nozzles; and (ii) one or more a gaseous feed streams of sulfur-containing compounds at a speed of at least 25 m / s and being discharged via one or more second nozzles, wherein the combustion is carried out at atemperature between 800 DEG C and 1200 DEG C.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a process for treating a gaseous feed of sulfur compounds with a sulfur compound content of less than 5 vol.% to obtain a gas depleted in sulfur compounds. Background technique [0002] Elemental sulfur and sulfur compounds are widely found in natural resources such as coal, crude oil and natural gas. When processing these resources, a gaseous stream, such as flue gas, is obtained that includes major and minor sulfur compounds. Typically, the sulfur compounds in these gases are removed, or at least substantially reduced, before these gases are released into the environment. Various processes have been developed which aim to sequester and convert sulfur compounds, such as disulfides, to elemental sulfur. Examples of processes for sequestering sulfur compounds are, for example, the well known low temperature methanol wash process, DIPA absorption process, and SCOT process. For example, processes for converting sulfides to elem...
