Abstract

A separator (101) for separating raw milk (RM) into a skim milk phase (SM), a cream phase (CR) and a spray phase (SI) containing solid impurities is disclosed. The separator comprises injection ports (104) arranged at the periphery (105) of said separator to inject said injected phase. A cyclone (106) is connected to the jet port to receive and slow down the jet phase, and a vessel (107) is in fluid communication with the jet (112) phase outlet of the cyclone (106) to receive and collect Spray phase from the cyclone. The cyclone separator includes a port (108) to the atmosphere such that when the sprayed phase is injected from the separator into the cyclone separator, pressure buildup generated in the cyclone separator is released.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a separator for separating raw milk into a skim milk phase, a milkfat phase and a spray phase containing solid impurities, and a related method. Background technique [0002] A separator that separates raw milk into different phases of different densities under the action of centrifugal force is called a centrifugal separator. Raw milk is introduced into the rotating disc stack of the centrifugal separator. Under the influence of centrifugal force, the heavier sediment and lighter fat globules in raw milk start to settle radially outward and inward, respectively, in the separation channel according to their density relative to skim milk. The high-density solid impurities in the milk will settle out towards the periphery of the separator and collect in the settling space. Solids collected in the deposition space may include straw and hair, mammary cells, white blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells, bacteria, etc. ...
