Problems solved by technology

[0006] Additionally, current methods of manufacturing welded components have limitations in the nozzle geometries that can be produced
This can result in a sub-optimal nozzle
For example, with multi-wave dip welding nozzles, the nozzle and screen are currently manufactured separately, resulting in a brittle screen

Embodiment Construction

[0060]In its most general form, a soldering assembly is disclosed that includes at least one nozzle for directing solder during a soldering operation. The welding assembly may be a welding assembly for use in a multi-wave welding process (typically including more than one nozzle) or a point-to-point welding process (typically including a single nozzle).

[0061] The nozzle of the present disclosure (or nozzles when referring to a multi-wave soldering assembly) includes: an inlet for receiving a supply of solder; an outlet for dispensing solder therethrough; and at least one channel for The inlet is fluidly connected to the outlet.

[0062] The nozzle includes a plurality of stacked layers of stainless steel or titanium configured to at least partially define the at least one channel. In this example, these stacked layers are deposited during additive manufacturing or 3D printing. That is, during construction, successive layers of stainless steel or titanium are deposited to ...

Abstract

A soldering assembly and a method of manufacturing a soldering assembly are disclosed. The soldering assembly includes at least one nozzle for directing solder during a soldering operation. At least one nozzle includes an inlet for receiving a supply of solder; an outlet for dispensing solder therefrom; and at least one channel fluidly coupling the inlet to the outlet. At least one nozzle comprises a plurality of stacked layers of stainless steel or titanium, provided so as to at least partially define at least one channel. At least one nozzle is at least partially diffusion coated with chromium carbide so as to protect the stacked layers from corrosion.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a welded assembly and a method of manufacturing the welded assembly. In particular, but not exclusively, the invention relates to a welding assembly comprising a nozzle. Background technique [0002] Selective soldering can be used in many soldering applications, such as soldering components of printed circuit boards (PCBs). In general, selective soldering can be divided into two methods: multi-wave dip soldering and point-to-point soldering. [0003] In a multi-wave dip soldering process, a large size solder bath or solder assembly 100 (as shown in FIG. 1 a ) is typically used having a plate 102 that includes nozzles 104 to which liquid solder is pumped. . The PCB (not shown) is lowered towards the nozzle so that the connector leads / pins (eg in a Cu (copper) panel) are immersed in the liquid solder present in the nozzle to form a solder connection / pin at the corresponding location on the PCB connector. That is, mu...
