Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a system for reversing the depolarization effect exhibited by an ultrasound transducer. An ultrasound system, probe and method are provided. The ultrasound system, probe, and method include a transducer having a piezoelectric transducer element (104, 141) polarized in a polarization direction (1423). Over time, one or more of the transducer elements exhibit a depolarization effect. The one or more drive circuits (1412, 1414, 1405) are configured to: i) generate a transmit signal (650) having at least a first and a second polarity section (652, 654), the first and the second polarity section (652, 654) having corresponding first and second peak amplitudes (+VT,-VT); and ii) generate a repolarized signal (1421) having a repolarization mode configured to at least partially reverse the depolarization effect exhibited by the one or more transducer elements (104, 1410).
