[0031] The present invention provides a process for adjusting the amount of water and the concentration of water-soluble additives in water-based injection molding compounds. The process can be used on waste material before sintering and dry virgin raw material pellets to adjust the shrinkage of the raw material. The first step in the process is preferably to expose the material to a water-based rehydration solution until an equilibrium water concentration and additive concentration is established between the material and the surrounding water. Trace amounts of additives such as calcium metaborate (treatment aid) or biocides can be added to the rehydration solution to achieve the desired balance of treatment and antimicrobial properties of the components. In the case of waste, excess water can be removed from the waste by conventional equipment and then crushed into granules.
