Embodiment Construction

[0020] In the following description, the same components are designated with the same reference numerals throughout the written description and the illustrations, respectively. The illustrations may not be drawn to scale and for the sake of clarity and clarity some components may have been drawn in generalized or schematic form and labeled with commercial symbols.

[0021] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of a system 100 providing a direct conversion receiver and transmitter in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. System 100 enables the local oscillator of a direct conversion receiver to also be used to modulate an output signal to a transmit frequency, thereby reducing the number of components required in a system for receiving and transmitting data. System 100 can be implemented in hardware or a suitable combination of hardware and software, and is preferably an integrated circuit on a single silicon wafer base.

[0022] System 100 includes low noise amplifi...

Abstract

A system for transmitting and receiving data is provided. The system includes a direct-conversion receiver that receives a signal modulated on a carrier frequency signal. The direct-conversion receiver includes one or more subharmonic local oscillator mixers. A local oscillator is connected to the direct conversion receiver, and generates a signal having a frequency equal to a subharmonic of the carrier frequency signal. A transmitter is connected to the local oscillator, which uses the local oscillator signal to transmit outgoing data.

Description

field of invention [0001] The invention belongs to the field of data transmission. More particularly, the present invention relates to systems and apparatus for data transmission that enable direct conversion receivers and transmitters to be used without shielding or biasing circuits for DC components in the received signal, which Such shielding or biasing circuits are often required for direct conversion receivers and transmitters. [0002] related application [0003] This application is related to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 09 / 260,919, filed March 2, 1999, and entitled "DIRECT CONVERSION RECEIVER," which has common owners and assignees with this application, and is hereby assigned to each incorporated by reference for this purpose. Background of the invention [0004] Direct conversion receivers are receivers known in the art. In a direct conversion receiver, the received carrier frequency signal in which data is modulated is mixed with a signal from a local o...
