Embodiment Construction

[0078] The present invention provides a system for automatic control of dialysate during the treatment of chronic renal failure patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The system includes a device that automatically drains spent fluid from the peritoneum and fills it with a predetermined volume of peritoneal dialysis fluid heated to body temperature. This device can meet the needs of patients who need peritoneal dialysis exchanges such as fifth exchanges, night exchanges or those who need a more convenient time and method to perform four exchanges by skipping one day exchange requirements.

[0079] The system is designed to be used with peritoneal dialysis fluid containers such as the Ultrabag manufactured and sold by Baxter Healthcare of Deerfield, Illinois. TM Dianeal in card container TM Brand peritoneal dialysis solution) used together. The container includes a solution bag, an introduction tube, and a drain bag. The system of the present invention can also be used wi...

Abstract

A system and method for solution exchange particularly for patients requiring peritoneal dialysis. The system comprises a device (1) which is portable and is particularly suitable for patients requiring overnight exchanges and additional exchanges. The apparatus (1) includes an operator touch control panel (10) operatively connected to a cabinet (26) with a heater (12) installed therein. The chamber (26) holds a solution bag (18) and is selectively opened and closed by a cover (28). A drain pan (30) holds the drain bag (20) and has a weighing pan (14) mounted within the drain pan. The chamber (26) is connected to the control panel (10) by an upper arm (38), and the drain pan (30) is connected to the control panel (10) by a lower arm (42). The device (1) can be folded by releasing the upper (38) and lower (42) arms. The system (1) can thus be placed in a substantially flat state when not in use.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a suction system. In particular, the present invention relates to systems and methods for aspiration of fluids, particularly for peritoneal dialysis. Background technique [0002] Peritoneal dialysis is a well-known procedure used to remove toxic substances and metabolites normally excreted by the kidneys and to help regulate fluid and electrolyte balance. Peritoneal dialysis is achieved by injecting fluid for peritoneal dialysis into the peritoneal cavity of a person through a catheter. The infused peritoneal dialysis fluid contains different electrolyte ion concentrations similar to those in physiological extracellular fluids, except for lactate which occurs as a bicarbonate precursor. [0003] Transperitoneal transfer of fluid and solutes occurs between the patient's plasma and the infused dialysis fluid. This process normalizes the distribution of plasma electrolytes. High concentrations of toxic subst...
