Magnetic name plate assembly

A name plate assembly for use on a garment including a name plate and a connector which are magnetically attracted to each other, and which are disposed on opposite sides of a piece of clothing during use such that the clothing is sandwiched therebetween is provided. The name plate assembly is removed from the garment by the user pressing the connector through the fabric, or by otherwise engaging and applying a force to the connector such as by grasping and pulling on the connector. The connector acts as a lever when engaged in order to break the magnetic connection between the name plate and the connector, so that the name plate assembly may be easily removed from engagement with the article of clothing without excessive force. In one embodiment, the connector is preferably V-shaped and includes an indentation on either end of the legs of the "V" in order to receive a magnet therein. The name plate preferably includes a face plate for displaying indicia, such as a user's name, and a back plate which is adapted to engage the garment and which is placed in a facing relationship to the magnets of the connector. The back plate is made of a magnetically conductive material such that the magnets of the connector are attracted to the back plate in order to hold the name plate assembly to the clothing. In one embodiment, the back plate includes a set of protrusions in order to limit movement of the connector and name plate relative to each other. The protrusions may also provide a guide for proper placement of the connector.

A clip that utilizes a magnet to attach identification cards to clothing. The clip includes a clasp, a hinged metal bendable strap, and a magnetic connector which together allow identification cards to be displayed anywhere on a garment without penetrating, clamping or biting the fabric. The invention is connected to an identification card by passing the card attachment clasp through a slotted hole cut in the card and snapping it closed. The clasp is attached to a bendable strap that ties the card to the magnetic connector. The hinged metal bendable strap can bend and flex allowing the position of displayed card to adjust to the movement of the person wearing it. The magnetic connector consists of two parts. The first part is a ferrous metal plate which is fixed to the back of the bendable strap. The second part is an extra strong magnet which is placed behind clothing fabric when attaching the invention to a person's clothing. Using magnetic attraction, the two pieces of the connector hold together and sandwich clothing fabric between them. This attaches the invention and an identification card to the blank face of a garment without penetrating, clamping, or biting the fabric.

Magnetic platinum alloys

A new jewelry component alloy and articles of jewelry formed therefrom wherein the components and articles include precious metal alloys of platinum and cobalt that have magnetic properties and high hardnesses so that the various forms of fine jewelry that possess new and unusual visual and functional properties. When these alloys are formed into jewelry articles or components, the magnetic properties enable the components to either be attracted to or repelled by other components of different or like polarities. The jewelry designer is thus able to create pieces with levitating or suspended components, or to make magnetically connected components. The high hardness imparts exceptional durability to these components.
