Embodiment Construction

[0021] Referring to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate like or corresponding parts in the several figures. The liquid-cooled cylinder module 10 of the internal combustion engine is mainly composed of a crankcase 12 as shown in FIG. 1 . The crankcase 12 is typically cast from iron or aluminum. Crankcase 12 includes a top surface 14 adapted to receive a top gasket (not shown). A cylinder liner 16 is mounted in the crankcase 12 such that when fully assembled, a reciprocating piston (not shown) slides within a generally cylindrical bore 18 and forms part of the combustion chamber. In this combustion chamber the thermal energy of the combustion process is converted into mechanical energy. The purposely reserved space between the cylinder liner 16 and the crankcase 12 forms a coolant channel 20 through which the liquid cooling medium circulates to achieve the purpose of eliminating the heat energy of the cylinder liner 16 . The cylinder liner 16 is formed fro...

Abstract

The invention provides a diesel engine wet-typed cylinder sleeve with surface veins so as to prevent a corrosion action which is caused by a cavitation. The surface vein can be formed into a manganese phosphate coat which is used for the external surface of the cylinder sleeve in the cooling liquid flow passage of the diesel engine. The manganese phosphate is applied by a form that a crystal structure with an average grain dimension of 2-8 Mum is substantially short and compact and has clear carving surfaces and no cauliflower head shape, so as to form a discriminable passage network which surrounds the crystal. The crystal structure acts together with a natural adhesion and a surface tension in a cooling liquid so as to generate a stop liquid layer on the external surface of the cylinder sleeve. The stop liquid layer functions as a self-healing armor plate. When the cylinder sleeve is rapidly flexed to generate air pocket bubbles, the bubbles are supported by the stop liquid layer and removes far away from the external surface. When the bubbles are cracked, the kinetic energy thereof is exhausted in the stop liquid layer instead of directly exhausted on the external surface of the cylinder sleeve. The manganese phosphate coat has a sealing device function to a stabilized water molecule or the engine cooling liquid, thus improving the structure of the stop liquid layer.

Description

[0001] Related application reference [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 60 / 609,906, filed September 14, 2004. technical field [0003] The invention relates to a cylinder liner of a diesel engine combined with a combustion chamber and a reciprocating piston, in particular to a surface-treated cylinder liner of a diesel engine to overcome damage caused by corrosion caused by cavitation. Background technique [0004] Most heavy-duty diesel engines have wet cylinder liners, which allow coolant to circulate outside the cylinder liners to effectively dissipate heat. These wet cylinder liners are susceptible to failure by a mechanism known as cavitation. [0005] Air pockets are localized areas of low pressure that form along the outer wall of the cylinder liner. This is caused by the high cylinder pressures in the diesel ignition causing cylinder wall deflection. The cylinder walls rapidly expand and then recover during combustion. The...
