The liquid-cooled cylinder module 10 of the internal combustion engine is mainly composed of a crankcase 12 as shown in FIG. 1 . The crankcase 12 is typically cast from iron or aluminum. Crankcase 12 includes a top surface 14 adapted to receive a top gasket (not shown). A cylinder liner 16 is mounted in the crankcase 12 such that when fully assembled, a reciprocating piston (not shown) slides within a generally cylindrical bore 18 and forms part of the combustion chamber. In this combustion chamber the thermal energy of the combustion process is converted into mechanical energy. The purposely reserved space between the cylinder liner 16 and the crankcase 12 forms a coolant channel 20 through which the liquid cooling medium circulates to achieve the purpose of eliminating the heat energy of the cylinder liner 16 .
