[0210] Example 2 - Polyurethane / Acrylic Dispersion

[0211] After Example 1 was held for 35 to 45 minutes, items 14, 15 and 16 were added as a premix and item 17 was added as a rinse of the premix container. After about 10 minutes of mixing time, item 18 was added to the dispersion kettle and the premix of items 19 to 22 was added to the batch at a uniform rate over about 20 to 30 minutes. During this addition, the batch was allowed to exotherm. After the exotherm peaked and the temperature began to drop, slowly add item 23 to adjust the solids of the material to about 41%. The final dispersion had a measured iodine value of about 16 (thus, the polyurethane had a calculated iodine value of about 95) and a viscosity of 120 cps.

Abstract

A polymer useful in coating compositions is described. The polymer is preferably an unsaturated polyurethane polymer, which preferably has an iodine value of at least 10. The polymer may be combined with one or more liquid carriers to form a liquid coating composition useful in coating a variety of substrates, including planar metal substrates.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 61 / 243,888, filed September 18, 2009, entitled "COATING COMPOSITION AND ARTICLES COATED THEREWITH," and the U.S. Priority to Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 300,647 and International Application No. PCT / US2010 / 042254, filed July 16, 2010, entitled "COATING COMPOSITION AND ARTICLES COATED THEREWITH," which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety . technical field [0003] This invention relates to polymeric coating compositions. In particular, the present invention relates to polymeric coating compositions useful for coating metal substrates. Background technique [0004] Typically, polymeric coating compositions are applied to substrates, especially metallic substrates. Such coatings are used for a variety of reasons including, for example, protecting the substrate from degradation, beautifying the substrate (eg, providing color, brig...
