Problems solved by technology

[0003] The method disclosed by DE 199 09 694 A1 has the disadvantage that, due to the high carbon concentration acting over a long period of time, carbides are formed in the matrix material, which are no longer dissolved during the further heat treatment
Carbide close to the surface causes premature failure of the component depending on the strain

Embodiment Construction

[0022] figure 1 The process flow of the low-pressure carbonitriding method according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown in a schematic diagram. Here, the abscissa shows the time t. For metal components 1 ( image 3 ) to implement the method. figure 1 The ordinate in the graph shown shows the temperature in the treatment chamber on one side. The ordinate shows the partial pressures of nitrogen donor gas and carbon donor gas on the other side.

[0023] The low-pressure carbonitriding process begins with a heating phase A. In this heating phase the temperature T rises to the treatment temperature. In this embodiment, the processing temperature exceeds 900°C. Here, the treatment temperature is preferably in the range of about 780°C to about 1050°C. After reaching a processing temperature of approximately greater than 900° C., a temperature equilibration phase B follows. This is followed by nitriding stage C1. In this nitriding phase C1, the partial pressur...

Abstract

In a process for carbonitriding metallic components (1), provision is made of at least one carburization phase (D1, D2), in which the metallic component (1) is carburized with a carbon-donating gas. In addition, provision is made of a nitriding phase (C1, C2, C3), which is assigned to the carburization phase (D1, D2) and precedes the carburization phase (D1, D2). Here, in the nitriding phase, the metallic component (1) is nitrided by means of a nitrogen-donating gas at least superficially at at least one surface region (4) of the metallic component (1). It is thereby possible to avoid an excessive concentration of carbon, and therefore component failure is prevented and it is possible to dispense with costly remachining steps, e.g. grinding.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for carbonitriding metal components, especially steel components. In particular, the invention relates to a method for carbonitriding metal components of a fuel injection device of one or more compressed air self-ignition internal combustion engines. Furthermore, the method is also suitable for transmission elements. Background technique [0002] DE 199 09 694 A1 discloses a method for carbonitriding in a low-pressure process without plasma assistance. Molecular nitrogen is used as the donor gas in this known method, wherein the edge layer of the steel component is enriched with nitrogen at the end of the process. A carbonitriding stage with nitrogen as a donor is added as a final stage to the low pressure carburizing process. The process pressure in this stage is higher than the pressure in the carburizing stage. The nitrogen donor can here be added in the last process step as well as throughout the process. [0...
