The preparation method comprises following steps: 1) pre-treating phosphogypsum; 2) synthesizing an absorbent from phosphogypsum; 3) preparing the heavy metal ion absorbent; 4) treating waste water containing heavy metal ions by the heavy metal ion absorbent. The heavy metal ion absorbent is capable of processing heavy metal ions in contaminated water with high efficiency. The heavy metal ion absorbent synthesized by the preparation method possesses advantages of simple operation, low cost and fast speed, high synthesizing safety and little environmental pollution; can be used for treatment of waste water containing heavy metal ions; and is capable of opening up a new develop prospect for reasonable use of resources and economic and rapid processing of heavy metal-containing waste water.
