The invention discloses a method for preparing ultra-high-purity anhydrous magnesium chloride from magnesium chloride hexahydrate, which comprises the following steps: preparing a MgCl2 solution from magnesium chloride hexahydrate, preparing partially hydrated ammonium carnallite from the MgCl2 solution, reacting in a hexamethylentetramine-containing and ammonia-saturated methanol solution system to prepare magnesium chloride hexaammonate, and calcining to generate the anhydrous magnesium chloride. In the method, the addition of hexamethylentetramine can effectively inhibit hydrolysis of MgCl2, thus in turn avoiding formation of MgO in the final product. The purity of the finally obtained anhydrous magnesium chloride can be up to 99.9% or above, and the magnesium oxide content is no more than 0.03%.
