Abstract

The present invention discloses improved photoluminescence wavelength conversion components and lamps incorporating such components. The photoluminescent wavelength conversion assembly includes a hollow cylindrical tube having a bore of given diameter and an axial length. The relative size and shape of the components can affect the radial emission pattern of the components, and the components are configured to impart a desired emission pattern (typically omnidirectional). During manufacture of the component, the photoluminescent material may be distributed homogeneously throughout the volume of the component. The improved photoluminescence wavelength conversion component can be formed using extrusion methods. The assembly may also be formed using injection molding or casting. Another possible method is to manufacture the component by forming a flexible sheet to include phosphor and / or quantum dots and then rolling the sheet into the desired shape and size for the component. The improved wavelength conversion components and lamps incorporating these components provide improved emission characteristics while allowing relatively cost-effective manufacturing costs. A further advantage of the assembly is that its light emission is similar to the filament of a conventional incandescent light bulb.
