[0023] refer to figure 1 , according to the partial sectional view of the artificial seedbed of the present invention, the artificial seedbed is marked with 10 . figure 1 The middle bed 10 is a network of wood pulp (cellulose) fibers 20 and a cellulose-based binder (not shown). The seedbed 10 also contains seeds 21 and may also optionally contain fertilizers 23, hydrogels 22 or other additives such as herbicides, insecticides and growth hormones to promote germination and growth of the seeds. Both the dry hydrogel 22 and the seeds 21 are secured within the web of fibers 20 . Fibers 20 are bound by a cellulose-based binder during extrusion. The air-forming combination of wood pulp fibers and cellulose binder involved here is called coform. A system for infusing hydrogels into composite materials is disclosed in US Patent No. 4,604,313, incorporated herein by reference.
