Embodiment Construction

[0023] The following examples are used to explain the present invention, but not to limit the present invention.

[0024] Dental filling composite "Vernus / Heraeus Kulzer", consisting of the following components:

[0025] A acrylate monomer

[0026] B Dental glass, as an inorganic filler, particle size is about 1 μm

[0027] C Silicic acid, as an inorganic filler, the original particle size <40nm

[0028] D stabilizer, initiator

[0029] A sample was taken from the above material and hardened with a "Translux Energy" lamp.

[0030] In a blender, medium-diameter, about 5 nm Ag nanoparticles (BioGate, Erlangen) were uniformly added to the remaining material at a concentration of about 50 ppm over 30 minutes.

[0031] A sample was taken again and hardened with a "Translux Energy" lamp.

[0032] The results showed no color difference between the two hardened samples.

[0033] It is of course possible that the silver nanoparticles or their diffusion have been introduced at the...

Abstract

Disclosed are polymerizable dental materials containing silver particles having a primary particle diameter < 40 nm as an antimicrobial additive. The inventive dental materials are suitable as filling composites, basic prosthetic materials, adhesives, coating composites for crowns and bridges, and materials for artificial teeth, for example.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to polymerizable dental materials containing elemental silver as an antimicrobial additive. Background technique [0002] Polymerizable dental materials, such as filling composites, show a certain volume shrinkage during the polymerization reaction. Although the volume shrinkage can be significantly reduced by suitable selection of monomers and addition of inorganic fillers, it cannot be completely avoided. Due to volume shrinkage, marginal gaps are produced despite the use of adhesives which should ensure optimal bonding of the filling material to the tooth substance, with the result that microorganisms multiply and secondary caries occurs. [0003] Here the advantages of the traditional dental material - amalgam - are shown. Although the material is particularly prone to marginal gaps, secondary caries does not occur or rarely occurs due to the antimicrobial properties of its constituents. [0004] In order to compensa...
