Wake enhancement assembly

InactiveUS6427616B1Inexpensively retrofittedLarge weighting factorWave generating vesselsWater sport boardsBiomedical engineeringVALVE PORT
The subject invention is a wake enhancement assembly to vary a configuration of a wake produced by the hull of a boat. The assembly preferably includes three or four fluid chambers adapted to be disposed within the hull of the boat. The fluid chambers can be filled to provide added weight in selected areas of the hull. The added weight alters how the hull rides within a body of water and as such will alter the wake of the boat. A plurality of hoses are mounted to and in fluid communication with the fluid chambers for selectively filling and draining the fluid chambers. The assembly is characterized by a manifold having an inlet and a plurality of outlets. Each of the outlets has a valve disposed in fluid communication therewith. The filling hoses are connected to the outlets such that the valves of the manifold control a flow of fluid to and from the fluid chambers independently of each other. The valves and manifold electronically and remotely control the selective filling and draining of the fluid chambers.

Wake control device for boat

A wake control device for a boat, including a mounting member pivotally securable to the boat aft for pivoting about a first axis substantially transverse to the boat aft, a rudder member secured to the mounting member for pivoting about a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis, a drive selectively controlling the pivotal position of the mounting member about the first axis, and a fin extending laterally relative to the rudder member. Such a wake control device, with or without pivoting about the second axis, may also be secured directly to an outboard drive as well. A control manually operable by a wake boarder while being towed remotely controls the pivotal position controlling drive.

Wake-modifying device for a boat

A recreational sport boat includes a hull, having starboard and port sides and a transom, and a pair of wake-modifying devices positioned aft of the transom. One of the wake-modifying devices is positioned on a port side of the boat's centerline and another of the wake-modifying devices is positioned on a starboard side of the boat's centerline. Each wake-modifying device includes a plate-like member and at least one downturned surface at a trailing portion of the plate-like member. Each wake-modifying device is pivotable between a non-deployed position and a deployed position about a pivot axis that is horizontal or inclined no more than about 35° from horizontal. When a wake-modifying device is in the deployed position, the downturned surface is lower than it is in the non-deployed position so as to be able to modify the boat's wake.

Pivotal trim tab hull

A boat hull configured to create a desired wake shape through a combination of two distinct hull types that interact with the water flow at specified moments. Controlled shaping of the wake shape is achieved through redirection of water flowing across the transom of the main hull, onto a secondary transom of a secondary “diffuser” suction hull that creates a negative pressure that sucks the aft portion of the boat hull into the water, thereby immersing the secondary transom into the water where it can effectively interact with the water and “carve” the desired wake shape desirable for wake surfing.

Devices mounted within and/or on boat hulls for manipulating wakesurf and wakeboard wakes

Wakesurf and wakeboard boats are provided which include a component positioned along and / or within the hull and an actuator coupled to the component for moving an end of the component outward from the hull and retracting the end of the component to be in proximity with the hull. In some embodiments, the component is spaced forward of a vertical plane comprising the forwardmost point of the transom. Methods for creating a wake behind a boat are also provided which include listing a boat to one side via a listing component disposed on such a side and moving a component disposed within or coupled to an exterior surface of the hull on the opposing side of the boat. The component is moved outwardly from the exterior surface of the hull such that a distal free end of the component is spaced from the exterior surface when the boat is listed.

A device to redirect a wake of a watercraft, and a method of use are disclosed. The device includes a main body panel which extends into a flow of water as the watercraft travels through the water, and at least one suction cup which provides connection between the main body panel and a hull of the watercraft. The device changes the shape of the wake by diverting the flow of water in a different direction, and may be used to produce a wake suitable for wake surfing. The device may include at least one vacuum pump in fluid communication with the at least one suction cup, and at least one release actuator for selectively releasing a vacuum generated between the at least one suction cup and the hull of the watercraft by the vacuum pump.

Apparatus and method for wake shaping

A device is temporarily attached to one side of the stern of a boat in order to modify the wake pattern of the boat by effectively making one side of the boat longer than the other side. The delayed wave on the opposite side of the boat from the wake shaping device allows the wave to crest over the natural wave on the side where the device is installed. In one example, the device has a frame with a side surface angled outwardly 12 degrees from the side of the boat, a mounting surface with a platform index notch configured to be positioned over a portion of a boat platform. A wedge shape utilizes water pressure to distribute the load evenly across the fastening side of the device, thereby allowing for a tight fit to the back of the boat.

Rear extensions for boats

Rear boat extensions for boats and boats having such are provided. Some embodiments of boats include a rear boat extension as an attachment to their transom. Other embodiments of boats include a rear boat extension as a stern end part of a single molded component which includes the hull of the boat. In either case, the rear boat extension has a smaller depth than an adjacent part of the boat's hull. In some embodiments, a rear boat extension may be tapered toward its rearward end. In some cases, a rear boat extension may include peripheral sidewalls and may be open or include an opening at its rearward end or between upper edges of its peripheral sidewalls. In yet other embodiments, a rear boat extension may not include peripheral sidewalls. In any case, a rear boat extension may additionally or alternatively include an opening or recess within its bottom surface.

Wake shaping system for a boat

A boat comprising a wake shaping system comprising starboard and port wake shaping devices located aft of the transom, each wake shaping plate device comprising a first mounting portion coupled to the transom and a second plate portion pivotably coupled to the first mounting portion. The second plate potion of each wake shaping device is operable to pivot approximately 90° between a first, non-deployed position behind the transom and a second, deployed position extending outside the side of the hull and below the transom. When the second portion of the starboard wake shaping device is in the deployed position, a port wakesurf wake is created. When the second portion of the port of the wake shaping device is in the deployed position, a starboard wakesurf wake is created. When neither wake shaping device is deployed, a symmetrical wakeboard wake is created.

Boat and improved wake-modifying device for manipulating the size and shape of the wake

ActiveUS9573655B1Long and smoother wakeLarge wakeWave generating vesselsWater sport boardsTrim tabWater channel
Various configurations of improved wake-modifying devices for a power boat are provided herein. All such configurations provide a water channel and (optional) wedge for capturing and redirecting significantly more of the water flowing past the transom of the boat than conventional trim tabs consisting primarily of a flat plate. This increases the upward force applied to the deployed wake-modifying device and raises the stern of the boat on the non-surf side to list the boat to the surf side, producing a larger wake on the surf side. Some configurations provide a convergent water channel to produce longer, smoother wakes on the surf side of the boat. Other configurations provide a divergent water channel, which produces a comparatively shorter, taller wake on the surf side of the boat.

Floating wave making apparatus

InactiveUS20050223483A1Suitable for surfingAvoid leaningWave generating vesselsBathsMarine engineeringShore
A wave making method positions a shallow draft vessel off-shore form a shoreline of a sea in a position whereby one side of the vessel is in parallel to the shoreline. A pump is used for pumping seawater into a tank interior to the vessel. When the vessel is filled, the water is lifted to a rim of a side of the tank nearest to the shoreline to thereby dump the water in the tank over a side of the vessel. The dumped water is directed outwardly from the vessel and falls onto a submerged curved platform attached to the vessel and which extends outwardly therefrom. The platform creates a wave that moves away from the one side of the vessel toward the shoreline and is suitable for surfing.
