Abstract

The invention relates to an oversized picture scanner and a scanning method thereof. The oversized picture scanner comprises a rack, a scanning element group, a scanning data bracket assembly and a computer mainframe, wherein the scanning element group is arranged on the rack and consists of a plurality of surface type scanning units; the computer mainframe controls the scanning action of the scanning element group and processes scanned pictures and texts. The oversized picture scanner is characterized by also comprising a scanning element group horizontal travel mechanism, the surface type scanning units are fixed on the scanning element group horizontal travel mechanism by being arrayed in a line and positioned above or below the scanning data bracket assembly; and optical lens assemblies of the surface type scanning units face to the scanning data bracket assembly. A traversing carriage drives the scanning element group to scan corresponding scanned data one by one according to a region sequence during scanning, and then the computer mainframe splices the scanned pictures and texts by adopting a multichannel multithreading technology so as to complete the reduction of the scanned data. The invention has large scanning amplitude, high precision, small size and production cost saving.
