The preparation method of the base fertilizer for sweet potatoes provided by the invention comprises the following steps: putting sawdust treated by hydrochloric acid in mother liquor prepared by effective components, fully soaking, and drying to obtain the product. The effective components of the mother liquor comprise, by weight, 5-8 parts of amino acids, 5-8 parts of humic acids, 10-15 parts of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 1 part of sodium selenite, 1 part of zinc sulfate, and 1 part of ferrous sulphate. The potassium content of the base fertilizer for sweet potatoes provided by the invention is 1.5-2 times as high as the nitrogen content, which accords with the condition that the potassium content is 1.57 times as high as the nitrogen content in sweet potatoes; the base fertilizer has good slow release performance, and can provide potassium for a long time.
