Disclosed are polyacrylamide modified bentonite for mortar and a preparation method thereof. The polyacrylamide modified bentonite for mortar is formed by bentonite and polyacrylamide glue wrapping the surface of the bentonite. The polyacrylamide glue comprises, by weight percent based on the bentonite, 1%-4% of polyacrylamide, 1%-6% of ethylene glycol, 4%-10% of water reducer, and 20%-40% of water. By the aid of the polyacrylamide modified bentonite, molecular chain frames of the bentonite and the polyacrylamide are changed. By modification, negative effects of the bentonite and the polyacrylamide on mortar are avoided, compressive strength, bending strength and bonding strength of the mortar can be improved evidently, and application property, water retention and opening time of the mortar are improved. On the condition that the strength of the mortar is unchanged, consumption of cement in the mortar is reduced, consumption of expensive redispersible latex powder is reduced, and material cost of the mortar is reduced.
