Embodiment A

[0112] Step 1: Form the Pre-Mix

[0113] A 50 / 50 mixture of surfactants (eg Plantaren 1200N UP) is added to an organic solvent (eg glycerol) to form the vehicle. The hydrophobizing agent is then added to the carrier in small batches while stirring manually with a spatula or using a KitchenAid Beat with a super-high-powered mixer at any setting between 2 and 4 until a uniform consistency is observed and droplets form. In this example, the hydrophobic agent is Dow Corning Xiameter 300 centistoke (dimethicone). The weight ratio of carrier to hydrophobic agent is 1:1 to 1:20, or 1:9.

[0114] Step 2: Adding the premix to the other components to form a personal care composition can be performed by conventional means of preparing shave preparations, ie, utilizing a standard bench or laboratory blender such as a Cafarmo blender, model BDC1850 at 350 RPM Stir for about 30 minutes or until a substantially homogeneous mixture is obtained. Larger or smaller batches can utilize dif...

Embodiment B

[0115] Example B: In this example, it is possible to utilize a commercially available hydrophobic agent .

[0116] Step 1: Obtain a pre-prepared hydrophobe pre-mix (such as Dow Corning Xiameter MEM-1664 Emulsion (50% Dimethicone)) in droplet form.

[0117] Step 2: Add the hydrophobic agent in small batches to the mixing chamber containing the other components of the personal care composition. Stir using a Cafarmo mixer, model BDC1850, at room temperature at 350 RPM for about 30 minutes, or until a substantially homogeneous mixture is formed. Repeat step 2, adding small batches of the pre-prepared hydrophobe premix each time (e.g. about 1 / 5 of the total hydrophobizer premix th to about 1 / 30 th or about 1 / 10 th to about 1 / 20 th ). The amount of the hydrophobizing agent premix may be 2.75% by weight.

Embodiment C

[0118] Example C: Premix Containing Cooling Additives

[0119] Step 1: Hydrophobic agent mixed with additives

[0120] Mix 60.8 grams of a hydrophobic agent such as DC Xiameter 30,000 centistokes (dimethicone) with 0.1 grams of additives such as menthol and / or fragrance. This mixing was done while stirring by hand with a spatula until the menthol was completely dissolved.

[0121] Step 2: Form the Pre-Mix

[0122] Mix the mixture from step 1) with 9.1 grams of a surfactant such as Plantaren 1200N UP. The hydrophobizing agent was added to the surfactant in small batches while stirring manually with a spatula until a substantially homogeneous mixture was formed. Add additional small batches and mix until a substantially homogeneous mixture forms.

[0123] Step 3: Adding the premix to the other components to form a personal care composition can be performed by conventional means of preparing shave preparations, ie, utilizing a standard bench or laboratory blender such a...

Abstract

A process of making an aerosol shave composition, preferably a post foaming shave gel, comprising a hydrophobic agent, such as a silicon, in the form of a microdroplet having a particle size from about 0.15 microns to about 10 microns.

Description

Background technique [0001] Post-foaming shave gels are now well known. See, eg, US Patent Nos. 5,326,556 and 5,500,211. Efforts have been made to increase the lubricity of shaving compositions. It is known to incorporate various polymers into personal care compositions. See, eg, US Patent Publication 2007 / 0207106; US Patent Publications 5,902,574 and 5,262,154. Additionally, in some cases lubricating water-soluble polymers such as polyethylene oxide or polyvinylpyrrolidone have been added. See, eg, US Patent Nos. 5,560,859 and 5,858,343. In other cases, water insoluble particles have been added, including water insoluble polymer particles such as polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene or polyamide (nylon) particles, and water insoluble inorganic particles such as titanium dioxide or glass beads. See, eg, US Patent Nos. 5,587,156 and 4,155,870. Various other shave gels have been disclosed. See, eg, US Patent Publication 2006 / 0257349, 2006 / 0257350, and 2005 / 0175575 and US...
