Abstract

The invention discloses a high-precision large-range time-to-digital converter based on differential charging. The converter comprises a time slicing machine, a pulse generator, a starter, master and slave charge pumps, a selection circuit, a comparison circuit, a rough measurement counter, and a fine measurement counter. The time slicing machine divides a to-be-measured time interval into three parts, one part is quantized by the rough measurement counter, and the other two parts are converted into voltage information through the master charge pump. The starter generates approximation signals to trigger the pulse generator to generate charging-discharging pulse, and the slave charge pump is charged. The fine measurement counter records the number of the approximation signals. The selection circuit selects a voltage output from the slave charge pump and compares with voltage of the master charge pump. With incensement of clock period number, the voltage of the slave charge pump approaches the voltage of the master charge pump, and when the two voltages are equal, the comparison circuit output jumps and the fine measurement counter stops counting. Counting results of the rough measurement counter and the fine measurement counter are final measurement results. The converter can perform high-precision conversion on large range time interval.
