The lower the band of ultraviolet is, the stronger the lethality to biological cells is. Because of the unique VUV band transmittance of magnesium fluoride, the medium-voltage discharge lamp of the invention can emit VUV with enough energy, and has good performance of deep disinfection or rapid disinfection. Mercury ultraviolet output bulbs are no longer needed, and the impact on the environment is reduced. In addition, a mixture of deuterium gas and argon gas is used, and ultraviolet output can be produced in the ionization excitation and reduction process of deuterium gas. As great heat is produced instantly in the excitation and reduction process of deuterium gas, the lamp should not be filled with too much deuterium gas, and the ratio of deuterium gas to argon gas can be 1:16.
