Abstract

The invention discloses a method for identifying a rice population and a water bamboo population of chilo suppressalis walkers. The method comprises the steps of acquiring a chilo suppressalis walker larva to be identified, cutting the head of the chilo suppressalis walker larva, observing and shooting the head of the chilo suppressalis walker larva by using a scanning electron microscope after pretreatment, calculating the number of various sensilla on a tentacle and a mouthpart of the head, and identifying the population of the chilo suppressalis walker according to the following rules: (1) a tentacle flagellum of the water bamboo population is provided with a styloconic sensillum and two conical sensilla, and a tentacle flagellum of the rice population is provided with a styloconic sensillum and a conical sensillum; and a maxillary palp of the water bamboo population is provided with five conical sensilla and three cylindrical sensilla, and a maxillary palp of the rice population is provided with four conical sensilla and four cylindrical sensilla. Different populations of the chilo suppressalis walkers can be identified and differentiated through simply accounting the number of sensilla on the tentacle and the mouthpart in a short time. The method is simple, quick and reliable.
