Abstract

The invention provides a high-efficiency high-density GaN-based power converter, comprising a converter, a magnetic coupler, a primary switch, a secondary switch, a primary controller, a secondary controller and a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB). The multi-layer PCB comprises: one or more planar coils, wherein the planar coils are respectively formed on one or more PCB layers and are aligned with each other to construct a converter and a coupler; and a plurality of conductive traces and vias for providing electrical connections among the converter, the coupler, the primary switch, the secondary switch, the primary controller, and the secondary controller. The power converter further includes a pair of ferrite cores fixed to top and bottom surfaces of the PCB respectively, and shared by the converter and the coupler.
