[0017] The present invention relates to the preparation method of cesium salt, and further relates to the preparation method of cesium hydroxide. Furthermore, the present invention relates to processes for the preparation of alkali metal salts and alkali metal hydroxides.
[0018] In a preferred method of preparing the cesium salt, a solution comprising cesium sulfate is reacted with lime to form a solution comprising at least cesium hydroxide. A calcium sulphate-comprising residue is also formed in the reaction, usually in the form of a precipitate. The residue comprising calcium sulfate is then removed from the solution, and the cesium hydroxide in the solution is converted to at least one cesium salt.
[0019] The reaction of the cesium sulfate-containing solution with lime can take place essentially at any temperature, preferably at a temperature of about 0°C to about 100°C, more preferably at a temperature of about 0°C to about 50°C, and even more preferably at a tempera...
Embodiment 1
[0053] Analytical evaluation of filtered and pH-neutral dilute cesium sulphate solution, about 6% by weight, with respect to properties, including the content of impurities insoluble in the lye. These samples were used in each of the examples described below. Including g / l cesium, it is worth noting that lye-insoluble impurities greater than or equal to 1ppm are described as follows: 47g / l cesium
[0054] 476ppm Calcium
[0055] 2470ppm magnesium
[0056] 57ppm Manganese
[0057] 33ppm silicon
[0058] 3ppm Aluminum
[0059] 1ppm boron
[0060] 5ppm Thallium
Embodiment 2
[0062] 15g barium hydroxide monohydrate was added in the cesium sulfate stock solution of 250ml embodiment 1. All soluble sulfate was removed by precipitating insoluble barium sulfate. The slurry was filtered to remove insoluble precipitate residues. The dilute cesium hydroxide filtrate was analyzed and contained <10 ppm sulfate and 370 ppm barium. Adjusting to use slightly more than 1% barium, the soluble sulfate charge in the starting cesium sulfate was calculated to contain 28253 ppm soluble sulfate. The sulfate content and barium hydroxide requirement for a typical dilute cesium sulfate stock solution were used as benchmarks for the example process steps cited below.
