Embodiment approach

[0053] figure 1 It is a perspective view which shows the structure of the panel 10 in embodiment of this invention. In the panel 10, the front panel 20 and the rear panel 30 are arranged to face each other, and the outer periphery thereof is sealed with a sealing material of low-melting glass. Discharge gas such as xenon is sealed in discharge space 15 inside panel 10 at a pressure of 400 Torr to 600 Torr.

Abstract

Disclosed is a plasma display device characterized by comprising: a protective layer (26) for a front plate (20) in a plasma display panel, the protective layer (26) comprising a substrate protectivelayer (26a) formed of a thin film of a metal oxide comprising at least one of magnesium oxide, strontium oxide, calcium oxide, and barium oxide, and a particulate layer (26b) formed by adhering singlecrystal particles (27) of magnesium oxide having an NaCl crystal structure, surrounded by specific two types of oriented planes of (100) plane and (111) plane or by specific three types of oriented planes of (100) plane, (110) plane and (111) plane, to the substrate protective layer (26a); and a panel drive circuit configured so that the panel is driven by temporally arranging subfields in such amanner that the weight of brightness from the subfield where an entire cell initialization operation is performed, to the subfield just before the subfield where the next entire cell initialization operation is performed is monotonically decreased. The above constitution can lower a writing pulse voltage.

Description

technical field [0001] 【0001】 [0002] The present invention relates to a plasma display device as an image display device using a plasma display panel. Background technique [0003] 【0002】 [0004] Plasma display panels (hereinafter referred to simply as "panels") have been realized as large-screen display devices because they can perform high-speed display even with thin image display devices and are easy to increase in size. [0005] 【0003】 [0006] The faceplate is constructed by gluing the front and back panels together. The front panel has a glass substrate, display electrode pairs formed of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes formed on the glass substrate, a dielectric layer formed to cover the display electrode pairs, and a protective layer formed on the dielectric layer. The protective layer is provided for the purpose of protecting the dielectric layer from ion collision and easily generating discharge. [0007] 【0004】 [0008] The back plate has a glass s...
