Abstract

The invention relates to an erbium-ytterbium double-doped yttrium-aluminum garnet (Er,Yb:YAG) transparent ceramic material with high light transmittance and a preparation method thereof. The ceramic material is characterized by consisting of EraYbbY(3-a-b)Al5O12, wherein a is more than or equal to 0.015 and less than or equal to 0.6, and b is more than or equal to 0.03 and less than or equal to 1.5, that is to say, the doping concentration of Er ions is 0.5-20 at percent, and the doping concentration of Yb ions is 1-50 at percent. The preparation method comprises the following two procedures of: (1) weighing Er2O3 powder, Yb2O3 powder, Y2O3 powder and Al2O3 powder according to needed doping concentrations, performing ball milling on all powder with absolute ethyl alcohol, aluminum oxide grinding balls and a TEOS (Tetraethyl Orthosilicate) sintering aid for mixing, drying, screening and calcining an obtained sizing agent to remove organic residues, and molding to obtain a biscuit; and (2) performing vacuum sintering on the obtained biscuit, wherein the prepared material with the thickness over 2 millimeters has linear light transmission rate over 80 percent in visible and infrared wavebands, which is equivalent to that of a correspondingly constituted crystal.
