Said method consists of the following steps: a) untreated water (RW) is provided; b) a mixture (M) is produced by mixing the untreated salt water (RW) with an aqueous solution containing hydroxide ions (HL); c) the solid (FS) formed from the mixture (M) is sedimented by forming an essentially clear liquid (U); and d) treated water (PW) is extracted from the essentially clear liquid (U).
