Abstract

A mullite liner outer layer for an auto-exhaust catalyst and a preparation method thereof are provided. The mullite liner outer layer is composed of the following components by weight percentage: 60-85% of a modified mullite fiber, 5-10% of a calcined alumina micro-powder, 3-10% of silica sol, 1.2-3.8% of sodium hypochlorite, 2.7-7.3% of starch, and 0.5-1.5% of an additive, wherein the sum of the contents of the components is 100%. The modified mullite fiber comprises the chemical components by weight: not less than 70% of Al2O3, not more than 25% of SiO2, and more than 1.5% of an oily substance, wherein the sum of the contents of the chemical components is 100 wt%. The preparation method comprises the steps: a) weighing the raw materials according to the proportion, mixing evenly, and thus obtaining a slurry through mixing; and b) then carrying out suction filtration molding, and drying at a temperature of 190-210 DEG C for 10 h to obtain the finished product. With utilization of the modified mullite fiber as the main raw material and under a condition of overcoming pulverization, an excellent refractory property of the product is ensured.
