Problems solved by technology

However, due to the high dimensionality of the acquisition technique (e.g. 3D in the spatial domain and 3D in q-space), assessing the diffusive properties of water in vivo can lead to prolonged scan times for acquiring acceptable data for image reconstruction

Embodiment Construction

[0052] One or more specific embodiments are described below. In providing a brief description of these embodiments, all features of an actual implementation may not be described in this specification. It should be understood that in the development of any such actual implementation, as in any engineering or design project, a number of implementation-specific decisions must be made in order to achieve the developer's specific goals, such as compliance with system-related and business-related constraints that can be applied to Varies per implementation. In addition, it should be understood that such a development effort might be complex and time consuming, but nevertheless is an routine matter of design, fabrication, and manufacture by those having the benefit of this disclosure.

[0053] When introducing elements of various embodiments of the present embodiments, the qualifiers "a," "an," "the," and "said" are intended to mean that there are one or more of the elements. The t...

Abstract

The present invention is entitled Generalized Spherical Deconvolution in Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging. A magnetic resonance imaging method includes generating a spatially resolved fiber orientation distribution (FOD) from magnetic resonance signals acquired from patient tissue using a plurality of diffusion codes, each acquired magnetic resonance signal corresponding to one of the diffusion codes and representing Three-dimensional distribution of the displacement of the magnetic spins of the gyromagnetic nuclei present in each imaging voxel. Generating the spatially resolved FOD includes performing generalized spherical deconvolution using the acquired magnetic resonance signals and a modeled tissue response matrix (TRM) to reconstruct the spatially resolved FOD. The method also includes generating a representation of fibrous tissue in the patient tissue using the spatially resolved FOD.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and more particularly to generalized spherical deconvolution in diffusion magnetic resonance imaging. Background technique [0002] In general, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations are based on the interaction between a main magnetic field, a radio frequency (RF) magnetic field and a time-varying gradient magnetic field with a gyromagnetic material with nuclear spin in a subject of interest, eg a patient. Certain gyromagnetic materials, such as hydrogen nuclei in water molecules, have characteristic behaviors in response to external magnetic fields. The precession of the spins of these nuclei can be affected by manipulating the field to generate RF signals that can be detected, processed and used to reconstruct useful images. [0003] Techniques have been developed to perform MRI imaging sequences to generate diffusion information indicative of tissue microstructure, and / or to...
