Problems solved by technology

Problems associated with this process include: contaminants being drained from the rearing facility and will degrade the surrounding water quality; loss of product due to deterioration of water quality in the rearing facility; and increased disease pressure associated with pathogenic microorganisms in the rearing facility
Problems associated with the prior art include high cost and poor water quality improvement performance with inactive supplementary bacteria, low nitrification activity due to the presence of organic waste and lack of growth sites for nitrifying bacteria, ineffectiveness of antibiotics in reared aquatic species bioaccumulation

Abstract

A method for treating and improving the quality of pond water used in growing aquatic species for aquacultural applications by adding to the pond water active bacteria that are preferably grown on site in combination with a nitrification enhancement agent such as calcium carbonate or calcified seaweed, and an optional reaction surface area modifier such as calcified seaweed or plastic or metal particles or fragments.

Description

[0001] Citations to related applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 002,476, filed May 23, 2014, based on 35 U.S.C. § 119(e). [0003] Background of the invention [0004] in the United States Patent and Trademark Office [0005] Method for improving water quality in aquaculture ponds technical field [0006] The present invention relates to the treatment of aquaculture pond water to reduce organic waste, ammonia and disease pressure in aquatic livestock applications. Background technique [0007] Aquaculture refers to the farming of aquatic species used as a food source for humans or animals. This technique imposes some type of control over the natural conditions of the species being reared to improve overall production. This can include artificial hatching of species to increase commercial harvesting of wildlife, hatching and rearing of species in ponds, and hatching and rearing of species in tidal drained e...
