Embodiment 1

[0063] 24.58 g of cobalt oxide (Co 3 o 4 ), 11.30 grams of lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ) and 89.12 grams of antimony trioxide (Sb 2 o 3 ) was homogenized and calcined between 1,010°C and 1,150°C for 4 hours. The resulting material is bright pink and can be ground to a pink colored pigment particle size (>5 μm). see Figure 5 Reflectance spectrum of Example 1 milled in . See the color of Example 1 in the PVDF / acrylic main color drawdown film in Table 7 and the average particle size after grinding.

Embodiment 2-9

[0065] According to the molar amounts listed in Table 2, cobalt oxide (Co 3 o 4 ), cobalt carbonate (CoCO 3 ), cobalt hydroxide (Co(OH) 3 ), lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ), antimony trioxide (Sb 2 o 3 ), cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O), sodium carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ) and potassium carbonate (K 2 CO 3 )mixture. The mixture was homogenized by means of a mortar and pestle and calcined in air at 1,100°C for 4 hours. After firing, the color of the final product is listed in Table 5 and ranges from bright pink to reddish.

Embodiment 10-18

[0067] According to the molar amounts listed in Table 3, cobalt oxide (Co 3 o 4 ), lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ), antimony trioxide (Sb 2 o 3 ), copper oxide (CuO), magnesium carbonate (MgCO 3 ), molybdenum oxide (MoO 3 ), tungsten oxide (WO 3 ) and titanium oxide (TiO 2 )mixture. The mixture was homogenized by means of a mortar and pestle and calcined in air at 1,100°C for 4 hours. After firing, the color of the final product is listed in Table 5 and ranges from light pink to light red. see image 3 The reflectance spectrum of Example 18.

Abstract

Few violet or pink commercial pigments show high thermal stability, resistance to acidic conditions, or good lightfastness. The present technology results in pigments that fall into the above-mentioned color space, but exhibit improved chemical and weathering stability. Pigments based on the present technology have a molar ratio (A 2 O) x (BO) y (C 2 O 5 ) z (DO 3 ) w (EO 2 ) v , where 2x+y+2z+w+v=100. wherein A is one or more of Li or Li and Cu, Na or K, wherein B is Co or one or more of Co and Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Sn or Zn, wherein C is Nb, Sb, or a combination thereof, wherein D is Mo, W, or a combination thereof, and wherein E is Sn, Ti, Zr, or a combination thereof. The above formulation can be modified with dopant addition of Al, B, Ba, Bi, Ca, Ce, Cr, La, P, Pr, Si, Sr, Ta, V or Y, wherein the dopant concentration is 5 atomic % or less of the total moles of components A+B+C+D+E.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority benefit to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 330,563, entitled "Pink and Violet Pigments Exhibiting Thermal Stability, Resistance to Acid Conditions, or Good Lightfastness," filed May 2, 2016 , the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] Few commercial composite inorganic pigments in shades of violet or pink show the desired color qualities combined with high thermal stability, resistance to acidic conditions or good lightfastness. Currently includes C.I. Pigment Violet 14 (Co 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ), Violet 47 (LiCoPO 4 ) and Violet 48 ((Co,Mg) 2 B 2 o 5 ) commercial pigments are heat stable, but unstable in acid and not lightfast. figure 1 Illustrates the chroma of the violet pigment mentioned above with hue angle Relative relationship of a* and b* color values (using CIELAB color space coordinates) measured on a PVDF / acrylic massstone drawdown us...
