Embodiment

[0108] A hair cleansing shampoo formulation having the ingredients shown in Table 1 below was prepared. Examples 1 and 2 represent formulations for use in the method according to the invention. Examples A and B represent comparative examples (for processes not according to the invention).

[0109] Table 1

[0110]

[0111] Hair is treated with the formulation and the longevity of the fragrance benefit thus imparted to the hair is measured. 0.25 g of the test formulation was applied to 2.5 g / 6" wet hair tresses. The formulation was massaged into the hair for 30 seconds followed by a 30 second rinse with warm water. The hair was allowed to dry naturally. The treatment was repeated once. five replicates.

[0112] Olfactory evaluation was performed by a trained fragrance expert. A 10-point scale of hedonic intensity was used. Pleasure intensity was scored before and after grooming the hair tresses at 24 hours and 2 weeks after treatment.

[0113] The results are shown i...

Abstract

The invention provides a method of using a personal cleansing composition, said personal cleansing composition comprising, in an aqueous continuous phase: (i) from 5 to 30% by weight of one or more anionic cleansing surfactants; (ii) from 0.1 to 10% by weight of discrete, dispersed droplets of emulsified silicone with a mean diameter (D3,2) of 4 micrometers or less; (iii) from 0.1 to 5% by weightof microcapsules in which a core comprising benefit agent is encapsulated in a polymeric shell, and (iv) from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of a combination of cationic polymers comprising: (a) at least one cationic polygalactomannan having a mean charge density at pH7 from 0.2 to 2 meq per gram; and (b) at least one acrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride / acrylamide copolymer having a mean charge density at pH7 from 1 to 3 meq per gram; wherein the method comprises the steps of applying the personal cleansing composition to a substrate selected from hair and skin; drying the substrate; and shearing the microcapsules to release the benefit agent after a period of from 24 h to 2 weeks.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of using a personal cleansing composition comprising a polymer and an encapsulated benefit agent, and the use of a polymer in a personal care composition to improve the longevity of benefits derived from an encapsulated benefit agent. Background technique [0002] In personal cleansing compositions such as liquid soaps, body washes and shampoos, the deposition and delivery of benefit agents is often a key driver of product performance. For example, many shampoo products on the market today function to deliver benefits to the hair by depositing benefit agents such as fragrance materials, silicones, dyes, and anti-dandruff agents onto the hair during washing. A key consideration is the longevity of the benefit conferred by the benefit agent once delivered to the surface. [0003] One widely used technique is to encapsulate the benefit agent in a protective coating such as a polymeric material. The polymeric mat...
