Problems solved by technology

[0014] However, traditional ferroelectric variable capacitors have proven to be unsuitable for applications sensitive to insertion loss such as mobile phones due to excessive losses
In addition, the performance of these devices is often unpredictable, thus hindering the optimal design, construction, and application of ferroelectric tunable filters

Embodiment Construction

[0043] In the design process of tunable band-pass filters (BPF) used in electronic signal processing systems such as communication systems, tunable band-pass filters must generally meet or exceed the out-of-band of fixed tuned band-pass filters. Suppression, passband insertion loss (IL) two requirements, size, weight, and other mechanical, environmental and electrical requirements.

[0044] Therefore, in order to make the tunable BPF replace the fixed-tuned BPF commercially feasible, the performance of the tunable BPF should be better than the performance of the fixed-tuned BPF it replaces in most or all of the electrical and mechanical requirements. In demanding applications (such as wireless mobile phones), the passband I.L. must be reduced to a minimum to prevent a great burden on other components in the mobile phone. If the I.L. of the tunable BPF is greater than the I.L. of the fixed tuned BPF it replaces, the increased I.L. may bring too much burden to the performance of the...

Abstract

The present invention provides a tunable ferroelectric multiplexer for use in CDMA communication devices. Tunable ferro-electric capacitors are used to tune the resonant frequencies of several resonators used in a multiplexer and to tune the frequency response shape of the multiplexer. A low loss ferroelectric material and configuration is provided. The tunable multiplexer is smaller and has less insertion loss than a fixed tuned multiplexer.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a multiplexer, in particular to a tunable multiplexer used in a CDMA communication device. Background technique [0002] Filters, such as band-pass filters, are widely used in communications and electronics. For example, in radio communications, a specific frequency band must accommodate many wireless users. In order to accommodate so many wireless users, the requirements for band-pass filtering must be very strict, because the frequency allocation provided is very dense. [0003] Currently, wireless mobile phones use fixed-tuned band-pass filters (BPF) to meet their filtering specifications. Because these filters must meet the minimum possible passband insertion loss (I.L.) and at the same time must meet specific high out-of-band rejection requirements, their design is very complicated. As a special example, consider PCS CDMA mobile phones. The in-band I.L. of the PCS transmit (TX) band (1850-1910MHz in the United States) s...
