Device for connecting a fan blade to a rotor of a ceiling fan motor

Captive fasteners and alignment posts for allowing ceiling fan blade arms to be easily and safely mounted onto ceiling mounted motors. Fasteners such as Philips head screws, regular head screws and bolts can be held captive in place on blade mounting arms with rubber grommet type washers. The grommet type washers have portions that can be sandwiched between the fastener head and the mounting arms and sandwiched between the mounting arms and rotating member on the ceiling fan motor in order to reduce vibration noise and movement Alternatively, novel captive fasteners having a thicker neck portion between a threaded end a the bead can be positioned within the grommet type washers. A second embodiment of the captive fastener is floatingly supported within the mounting arm between the fastener head and a ledge within the mounting arm through-hole, with an enlarged threaded end of the fastener on the opposite side of the ledge. A tip portion of these captive fasteners can remain extended from the upper surface of the mounting arm and is used to guide the fasteners to the mateable threaded openings on the bottom of the rotating member on the motor. A third embodiment incorporates at least one alignment post and mateable receiving hole for allowing the mounting arm to be properly aligned with the correct position on the rotating member. The alignment posts can be tapered, rounded or having flat sides such as squares and hexagons, to further position and hold the mounting arms to the rotating members on the motor. The alignment post(s) can be located on the upper surface of the mounting arms or extend downward from the rotating member of the motor. With the alignment posts either or both captive fasteners or regular fasteners such as bolts, regular head and Philips head screws can be used. Additionally, the alignment post(s) can be used without the grommet shaped washers. The alignment members and captive fasteners eliminate wobble effects by evenly attaching the mounting blade arm to the ceiling fan motor.

Methods and arrangements for identifying objects

A variety of technologies having practical application in retail stores are detailed. One is an improved method of identifying items selected by customers. This method includes receiving sensor data from plural sensors, including (a) ceiling-mounted cameras that monitor tracks of customers through aisles of the store, and (b) inventory sensors that are positioned to monitor removal of stock from store shelves. This received sensor data is employed in evaluating plural alternate item identification hypotheses. These hypotheses include a first hypothesis that a customer selected an item having a first identity, and a second hypothesis that the customer selected an item having a second identity. A confidence score is associated with each of the first and second item selection hypotheses. These confidence scores are refined as sensor data is received, e.g., increasing a confidence score of one hypothesis, and reducing a confidence score of another. Such refining continues until one of the hypotheses becomes a winner, due to an associated confidence score fulfilling a predetermined criterion (e.g., reaching a threshold value), at which time the item can be added to a tally for that individual. The winning item identification hypothesis may identify a barcoded item, without that item's barcode ever having been read by a barcode reader. A great number of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

Method and apparatus for installing window coverings

A method and apparatus are disclosed for installation of a cassette system for enclosing window coverings hardware, such as roller shade systems and to permit convenient removal of a roller tube assembly from the cassette without the need to take down the cassette itself. A cassette box is provided with two tapered slots at the wall side that match with two tapered cantilevers of the installation brackets. Installation of the cassette box is accomplished by simply lifting the box with its slots onto the bracket. Brackets are available as wall mount brackets, as ceiling mount brackets, and as end brackets for inside mount. The wall and ceiling mount brackets feature tapered cantilevers that precisely match the tapered slots in the cassette box. The tapered shape ensures that the cassette box locks itself firmly into position and tightens itself towards the bracket. The wall brackets include a flat aluminum plate and a carrier flange that is provided with the tapered cantilevers. The bracket height corresponds exactly with the cassette height. The ceiling bracket has two flanges, the carrier flange that has exactly the same cantilever construction but is taller by the amount of the height of the cantilever, and the ceiling mount flange. The ceiling mount flange is provided with a snap-in slot that will accommodate the molding. The snap-on molding of the present invention provides a secure and easy to install aesthetic closure. The molding lock is an integral part of the ceiling bracket. The inside mount end brackets include a wall plate flange and a horizontal support flange. The wall plate flange precisely matches the cassette box end plates. This ensures full light gap closure between cassette and mounting surface. The support flange is slightly flared at front and rear to ensure a safe and stable setting for the cassette system.
