Embodiment Construction

[0044] The invention significantly improves the MSF desalination process in the prior art. By reading and understanding the foregoing description and the features and principles of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, an experienced artisan who designs, manufactures and operates the water desalination system contemplated by the invention can practice the invention and realize its benefits .

[0045] According to one aspect of the present invention, it is improved in that it has been found that the extract of the MSF distillate can be used to power other process cycles operating at lower temperatures. It has also been found that the extract brings about a significant increase in performance in the MSF desalination plant from which the distillate is extracted. These improvements are not disclosed by the prior art.

[0046] exist Figure 1-4 In each of the embodiments shown, the MSF is indicated generally at 100 , which includes heat dissipation stages 110 a...

Abstract

A desalination process for the production of potable water comprising the steps of extracting at least one distillate stream 150 from at least one higher temperature stage 109 of a Multistage flash distillation (MSF) separation process 100 and supplying said at least one distillate stream to at least one stage of a separation process 200 operating at a lower temperature than said higher temperature so as to maximise the use of sensible heat in said distillate stream by heat transfer in said at least one stage, to lower the external heat input of said at least one stage and of the process overall. The distillate stream is used to provide additional heat exchange to a multiple effect distillation (MED) process 200, a reverse osmosis system (not shown) or to preheat the feed stream of the MSF process.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to improved methods of multi-stage flash distillation (MSF), and in particular to multi-stage flash distillation (MSF distillation) of seawater, i.e. the desalination of seawater for the production of drinking water, and advantageously relates to Some methods of MSF distillation that can achieve higher top brine temperatures (which can reach 120°C or more). Background technique [0002] Conventional methods known to desalinate seawater to produce drinking water include, for example, multi-stage flash (MSF), multiple-effect distillation (MED), reverse osmosis (RO) and vapor compression (VC) distillation. Each of the above methods is a well-established technology with its own unique characteristics and limitations. However, each of the above technologies requires independent energy input streams. So far, no studies have been performed related to the interaction of energy process streams between MSF and MED, or be...
