Problems solved by technology

However, due to the special interlayer structure of kaolin, the intercalation of kaolin is difficult to achieve, and there are few references in the literature.
Moreover, the preparation methods in the existing literature can only stay in the laboratory stage due to the complicated process and high cost, and the intercalation rate of the prepared samples is too low, which hinders the practical application of kaolin intercalation modified materials

Abstract

The invention discloses a method for intercalating and organically modifying kaolin by cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide. The method comprises the following steps of: (1) adding 10 parts by weight of kaolin into a reactor, adding 100 parts by volume of deionized water, mechanically stirring, heating, and keeping constant temperature, to obtain a fluid suspension; (2) in the fluid suspension, adding cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, and stirring at normal temperature, to obtain a blend solution, wherein the mass ratio of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide to kaolin is 1:10-1:20; and (3) filtrating the blended solution, washing with deionized water, and adding the solid articles into a vacuum drying box to drying at normal temperature after airing, and grinding the solid articles into powder. The modified kaolin of the invention improves microenvironment between layers, makes internal and external surfaces of clay to be changed from hydrophilia into lipophilicity, and enhances performances of composite materials. The modified kaolin of the invention not only can be used as an additive of an organic phase, but also can further react in the organic phase. The modified kaolin of the invention has a wide application prospect in painting technology and ceramic technology fields.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for intercalating and organically modifying kaolin with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Background technique [0002] Kaolin is a common inorganic clay. Its structure is composed of a layer of silicon-oxygen tetrahedron and a layer of aluminum-oxygen octahedron through the sharing of oxygen atoms. The chemical formula is Al 2 o 3 2SiO2 2 2H 2 O. Kaolin has good sintering properties and high refractoriness. These properties make it the main raw material for ceramic production. In addition, kaolin's high dispersion and adsorption properties make it widely used in the fields of papermaking and coatings. [0003] Organic modification, especially intercalation modification, of inorganic clay minerals is a hot spot in material science research in recent years. Intercalation modification can increase the interlayer spacing of inorganic clay, improve the mechanical and thermal properties of inorganic clay, and the interca...
