The invention discloses a preparation method of high-performance iron oxide black for an automotive topcoat. Iron oxide black is prepared by a sodium hydroxide oxidation method. The preparation method comprises the following steps: directly using an undried oxidized filter cake, adding 4-6wt% of nano- vermiculite powder and 0.3-0.5wt% of methyl triethoxysilane, grinding at high speed of 1500-2000rpm for 25-30 min, taking out and drying, adding a proper amount of water, beating for 20-30 min to prepare a slurry with the concentration of 50-60%, adding polyisobutene which account for 0.3-0.4% of the weight of the slurry, an ultraviolet light absorber which accounts for 0.2-0.3% of the weight of the slurry and an antioxidant which accounts for 0.1-0.3% of the weight of the slurry, stirring for 15-20 min, drying and crushing to obtain a finished product. By the use of polyisobutylene, the ultraviolet light absorber and the antioxidant, the surface of iron oxide black undergoes organic coating treatment, thus greatly raising usability of iron oxide black.
