Abstract

The invention discloses an eggshell type metal catalyst for preparing 1,3-propylene glycol by using glycerol, and a preparation method and application of the eggshell type metal catalyst. The catalyst which has an eggshell-shaped structure is obtained by dipping a hydrophobic carrier subjected to silanization treatment into precursor dipping solutions with different hydrophobic degrees, wherein active components of the catalyst are distributed on the surface layer of the carrier. The catalyst is prepared from the following components by weight percent: 0.1-10% of iridium element, 0.1-10% of rhenium element and 80-99.8% of silanixed silica gel. The preparation method of the catalyst can regulate and control the thickness of a shell layer and increase the utilization efficiency of the active components; after the eggshell type metal catalyst is used, higher glycerol conversion rate and 1,3-propylene glycol yield can be obtained under the hydrothermal condition that the temperature is 100-200 DEG C and the hydrogen pressure is 2-12MPa, so that the catalyst has good industrial application prospect.
