Abstract

A method of preparing a novel cauliflower variety rich in glucoraphanin by utilizing molecular marking is disclosed. Through a process of crossing, selfing and back-crossing in order, based on a molecular marking technique, and through combining marker assisted selection and traditional phenotypic selection, related gene fragments in a broccoli selfing line having a high glucoraphanin content are transferred to a cauliflower selfing line having excellent comprehensive properties to obtain the novel cauliflower variety having a high glucoraphanin content. By utilizing molecular marking, single plants having high glucoraphanin contents can be selected in a seedling stage and single plants having low glucoraphanin contents are eliminated, the area of land utilized is small, the working load is low, and disadvantages such as long cycles, high working loads and susceptibility to environment influences of methods for measuring glucoraphanin contents of ball-flowers in conventional breeding methods can be overcome.
