Embodiment Construction

[0013] Unless otherwise indicated, this application will employ conventional medical devices and methods within the skill of the art. Such techniques are explained fully in the literature. All publications, patents, and patent applications cited herein, whether supra or infra, are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety.

[0014] One aspect of the present application relates to a biodegradable in vivo support device or coated stent device. The device includes a body formed from a biodegradable metal skeleton coated with a biodegradable polymer coating. As used herein, the term "biodegradable" means that the metal matrix and the polymer coating degrade or degrade in a physiological environment (such as the vascular system of a human or animal body), usually within weeks or months. Disintegration, such that the support device loses its integrity and is broken down into metabolizable or excretable components. Additionally, the device is biocompatible and contains no...

Abstract

A biodegradable in vivo supporting device is disclosed. In one embodiment, a coated stent device includes a biodegradable metal alloy scaffold made from a magnesium alloy, iron alloy, zinc alloy, or combination thereof, and the metal scaffold comprises a plurality of metal struts. The metal struts are at least partially covered with a biodegradable polymer coating. A method for making and a methodfor using a biodegradable in vivo supporting device are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates generally to medical devices, and in particular to biodegradable in vivo support devices, such as coated stents. Background technique [0002] In vivo support or barrier devices (such as stents) are artificial "tubes" or "frames" that are inserted into natural passages or ducts in the body to prevent or counteract local flow constriction or outflow caused by disease, such as leaks or aneurysms. Strut devices include vascular stent devices, non-vascular stent devices, and heart failure closure or aneurysm seal devices. Vascular support devices are designed for applications in the vascular system such as arteries and veins. Non-vascular support devices are used in other body lumens, such as the bile duct, colorectum, esophagus, ureters and urethra, and upper respiratory tract. Closure devices can be used to correct heart defects such as atrial septal defect (ASD), patent foramen ovale (PFO), and ventricular septal defect...
