Embodiment 1-5

[0046] By polymerizing diallyl-dimethyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC), acryloyloxyethyl-trimethyl ammonium chloride (ADAM MC Q) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate (M-PEG acrylates) to synthesize dispersant polymers. The result is an aqueous solution of dispersant with a dry content of dispersant polymer of about 40% by weight.

Embodiment 6-8

[0051] Also by polymerizing diallyl-dimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC), acryloyloxyethyl-trimethylammonium chloride (ADAM MC Q) and monofunctional vinyl-terminated ethers and polyethers of different mono Body (m 4 ) to synthesize a dispersant polymer. The monomer composition in all examples was 48.75 mol% DADMAC, 48.75 mol% ADAM MC Q and 2.5 mol% amphiphilic monomer. Here again the result of the polymerization is an aqueous solution of dispersant with a dry content of dispersant polymer of about 40% by weight.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion which comprises polymerising one or more water-soluble monomers in an aqueous solution of salt in the presence of a dispersant polymer, wherein the dispersant polymer is a co-polymer of a monomer mixture (M) comprising at least one cationic monomer and at least one monomer which is tetrahydrofurfuryl acrylate, tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate, or a monomer of the general formula (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl, R2 is hydrogen or C1-C2 alkyl, R3 is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl, or benzyl, n= 1 to 4, and x = 1 to 50, where, the monomer mixture (M) is being substantially free from monomers which are not soluble in water and / or the dispersant polymer is obtainable by polymerising the monomer mixture (M) in a reaction medium which is substantially free from organic solvents. The invention also relates to an aqueous polymer dispersion, use of the dispersion and a process for the production of paper.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a process for preparing polymer dispersions. The invention also relates to the polymer dispersion, the use of the polymer dispersion and a method for producing paper. Background technique [0002] Aqueous dispersions of cationic polymers are used, for example, as retention aids in the paper industry. Other uses such as flocculants for wastewater treatment, as thickeners, and soil conditioners. Generally, these polymer dispersions include a dispersed polymer and a dispersant, where the dispersant is usually a polymeric dispersant. These polymer dispersions can be prepared by polymerizing a reaction mixture of water-soluble monomers in the presence of a salt. The final polymer is precipitated from an aqueous salt solution, and by using a suitable dispersant, a polymer dispersion is formed. [0003] There are a number of specification conditions that polymer dispersions should meet in order to give good results in the ...
