Embodiment Construction

[0023] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the cell retrieval synchronization system 10 is as follows figure 1 shown in . The system 10 includes a step 1 module 12 , a step 2 module 14 , a step 3 module 16 and a controller 18 to perform synchronization between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. To accomplish this synchronization, the UE, through the cell retrieval synchronization system 10, utilizes an initial cell retrieval algorithm, which is disclosed in detail below.

[0024] The step 1 algorithm of the initial cell search algorithm is accomplished using the step 1 module 12 . see image 3 , the step 1 module 12 comprises two hierarchical Golay correlators (HierarchicalGolay Correlators) (HGC) 21,22, two absolute value modifiers (AVM) 23,24, a decision circuit 25, a normalization circuit 26, a look-up table 27, a multiplier 28, a splitter 19, and a step 1 comparator 29. The Radix Increasing Cosine Filter (RRCFIR) 1 shown is not part of the Step...

Abstract

A system and method for establishing initial synchronization for the link between a UE and a base station in a communication network uses window exclusion logic in order to avoid a deadlock condition upon a detection of the wrong public land mobile network (PLMN). The communication signal is processed in a three step decision process. The first decision step (12) determines a chip offset of the strongest path detected over a frame of samples. In response to the first decision (12), the second step (14) generates a scrambling code group number and slot offset for retrieving the second synchronization code. The third decision step (16) retrieves a primary scrambling code in response to the code group number for synchronizing the UE to the base station.

Description

(1) Technical field [0001] The present invention is related to synchronization between user equipment (UE) and base station. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cell retrieval system utilizing an improved initial cell retrieval algorithm. (2) Background technology [0002] The initial cell retrieval algorithm is used to synchronize the UE to the base station. The UE completes its procedure via a common downlink channel called a physical synchronization channel (PSCH). see figure 2 , the PSCH has a structure in which a same primary synchronization code (PSC) is transmitted at the beginning of each slot, and a secondary synchronization code (SSC) is transmitted in each slot, so there are 15 different SSCs. As is known to those skilled in the art, a frame having a length of 15 slots can carry 15 SSCs. [0003] The order of transmission of the SSC depends on the number of primary scrambling code groups. For example, in a 512-cell system, there are 46 group...
