Maternity wear of the invention accommodates the changing shape of a woman's body during pregnancy, minimizing the need for maternity clothes. In one aspect of the invention, pants or a skirt are worn with the upper end unfastened so as to conform to the shape of the swelling torso in pregnancy, and an elastic band shaped similarly to a tube top is worn generally around the waist, so as to overlap the top of the unfastened pants or skirt and retain them on the body. A top, such as a blouse or shirt, can be worn with its tail end extending over the band. In another aspect of the invention, too-large maternity clothing is worn with the band garment engaged over the upper end. If desired the band garment can be folded over on itself, thus doubling its thickness.

This invention provides women's apparel having a unique and improved maternity and / or nursing breast support and enables the wearer to comfortably unsecure and secure a flap on a bra cup upon completion of nursing. The main inventive feature is a dynamic non-continuous or hanging bra support system made with a plurality of fabric members triangular in shape to allow a sizeable opening in each brassiere cup. The fabric members in each cup are joined at the upper end and create vertically oriented openings for maximum breast exposure that allow access to the breast and at the same time leave room for expansion of the breasts. The upper edges of the triangular cups are diagonally oriented, and the cups are attached only partially, at the lower portion to narrow regions of a stretchable band and / or laterally, to the side, thus providing flexibility, support and comfort for the wearer.

A nursing garment is formed as a nursing jacket or top that provides privacy to a nursing mother and entirely receives and covers a nursing baby. The nursing garment comprises a front panel, back panel, waist panel, and side portions. At least one elongated side placket is integrated within at least one of the side portions. The elongated side plackets extend substantially along an entire length of each side portion. At least one elongated slit is integrated within at least one of the elongated side plackets. Preferably, an elongated slit extends substantially along substantially the entire length of each side placket. The elongated slits are of a size so that an infant can pass completely through the slit and be entirely housed within the garment. A nursing garment and method manufacture thereof includes, detachable portions of nursing clips to connect a built-in bra to shoulder straps, wherein the built-in bra is detachable from either one of the shoulder straps in preparation for nursing and is without openings for nursing. This invention is an undergarment in the form of a strapless camisole that attaches to the flaps of any top opening nursing bra just below the clasp and opens with the flaps of the bra, staying, attached, when the woman opens the flaps to access the breasts for nursing. The nursing flaps of the shirt in closed position may form a V-neck. The back may be shaped in a V. A seam is provided between the upper portion and lower portions. Releasable fasteners are provided for fastening the rear lower portions to the upper portion of the shirt, thereby providing access to the spine.

The present invention relates to a nursing garment having front and rear portions. The front portion includes an inner layer positionable against the wearer's breasts. The inner layer has a first opening defined therein located proximal to the nipple of one of the wearer's breasts for providing access thereto. An outer layer having a second opening is superimposed on the inner layer. The first and second openings are alignable with each other to allow the nipple to be exposed. Also provided is a curtain member disposed between the inner and outer layers. The curtain member is accessible through the second opening and is moveable between a concealing position which obstructs access to the first opening through the second opening, and a revealing position which allows communication between the first and second openings to permit the nipple to be exposed for nursing.

In one embodiment, a nursing cover is constructed of a flexible cover body that is configured to cover a mother's front, particularly areas exposed while nursing a baby. For convenience of reference, the cover body can be described in terms of a top end, a bottom end and two sides. A track is coupled to the top end of the cover, and at least one clip is slidingly engaged with the track to permit the clip to slide along the track. Pregnancy is accommodated through the addition of the pregnancy panel between the front sides of the coat. The pregnancy panel is wider at the bottom and tapered toward the top. The two panel convertible maternity coat also can be used as a garment for covering both baby and mother, father, or other wearer though the addition of the baby panel between the front sides of the coat. The baby panel is shaped wider at the top and tapers down to a lower portion. Means are provided for readily fastening each panel separately to the coat so as to provide for ease in transitioning between the uses of the coat.

The present invention relates to a garment worn during different stages of pregnancy and different stages of postpartum body changes. A garment upper portion has a belly panel that is expansible to cover and fit over a growing abdomen during different stages of pregnancy, and a garment lower portion having a first torso encircling circumference that recedes downward to make way for expansion of the belly panel. The garment upper portion has a second torso encircling circumference to hold the garment up and in place over the torso.

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to a nursing shawl that can be worn by a woman to shield the woman's breasts while she nurses a small child. In one embodiment of the present invention, the nursing shawl is a one-piece garment constructed from a continuous piece of fabric and includes a top aperture through which a woman's head, neck, a first shoulder, and a first arm extend when the nursing shawl is worn. The nursing shawl wraps over the second shoulder, covering the second arm. The nursing shawl further includes two side edges that meet beneath the open first arm. The side edges can be fastened along the top portion, but are otherwise unfastened along the remaining length to provide access for attending to the small child beneath the nursing shawl and to provide a place for the small child's legs to extend.
