The method comprises the following steps of: preparing the magnesium oxide filler by adopting fused magnesium oxide yellow sand as a main raw material, and adding cordierite powder and mullite powder or their mixer. The method can be simply and easily implemented. The yellow sand is simple in production method and low in cost. Cordierite powder and mullite powder are regarded as excellent refractory materials and have the characteristics of uneven expansion, excellent thermal shock resistance, high loading and melting point, low high-temperature creep value, large hardness and excellent chemical resistance corrosion. The magnesium oxide filler has the excellent dielectric property, thus its insulating property is vastly superior to other fillers. The prepared magnesium oxide filler is greatly improved in the electrical property and insulating property, and the electric breakdown resistance property. Through the magnesium oxide filler, the problem of manufacturing the existing magnesium oxide filler for the fireproof cable is solved.
