The cross-linkable polyolefin insulating composition is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 40 to 60 parts of metallocene polyethylene (MPE), 20 to 40 parts of ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer (EEA), 20 to 40 parts of ethylene-octene copolymer (POE), 1.5 to 2.5 parts of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and 0.2 to 0.4 part of 4,4'-thio-bis (6-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol) antioxidant 300. A preparation method of the composition comprises the following steps: weighing the MPE, the EEA, the POE, TAIC (Triallylisocyanurate) and the antioxidant 300 according to formula proportions, simultaneously adding the materials into a mixer, and uniformly mixing at the temperature of 110 to 120 DEG C to obtain a mixed material; enabling the mixed material to enter a single screw granulator for granulating; cooling obtained aggregates by using water, conveying the cooled aggregates into a centrifugal dehydrator for centrifugally dehydrating, and then carrying out drying treatment; weighing and packaging the dried aggregates to obtain a finished product of the cross-linkable polyolefin insulating composition for the extreme-cold resisting wires and cables.
