Embodiment 1

[0049] A 40 micron thick PP sheet oxidized with a 5% potassium persulfate solution for 6 hours at 60°C was coated with a saturated aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (eg Mowiol 4-88; Kuraray Ltd.) and dried at 70°C . After this step, the sheet is cut longitudinally into crimped or instant crimped fibers ( figure 2 ). After being placed in water for 30min-60min, the resulting annular fiber element is stretched or stretched ( image 3 ). When the amount of hydrophilic polymer solution was doubled, the thickness of the resulting layer on PP doubled, which resulted in a stronger curling effect and took longer (over 60 minutes) to stretch when placed in water.

Embodiment 2

[0051] A 100 micron thick PP sheet oxidized with a 5% potassium persulfate solution for 6 hours at 60°C was coated with a saturated aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (e.g. Mowiol 4-88; Kuraray Ltd.) plus 10% barium sulfate powder. Cover and dry at 70 °C. After this step, the sheet is cut longitudinally into fibers that are immediately crimped. When these coiled, looped fibers are placed in water, they stretch, or stretch.

Embodiment 3

[0053] A 40 micron thick PP foil oxidized with a 5% potassium persulfate solution for 6 hours at 60°C is coated with a saturated aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid (eg Sokalan PA 40 or Sokalan CP 12S; BASF SE) and dried at 70°C . After this step, the sheet is cut longitudinally into fibers that are immediately crimped. When these looped fibers are placed in water, they stretch, or stretch, as described above.

Abstract

Fibers of different materials are widely used in inorganic binder compositions to improve the properties of the final cured composites. When a large amount of fibers is used in the inorganic binder slurry, there arises a problem of reduced processability due to unevenly distributed fiber content. The fibers of the present invention allow the use of large quantities of fibers without loss of processability, and are particularly useful for controlling the rheology of composite stock mixtures. The fibers according to the invention are bicomponent fibers comprising a first hydrophobic polymer and a second hydrophilic polymer, and they can be obtained by: - uniaxially stretching a first polymer sheet; - oxidizing the - coating one side of said first polymer sheet; - coating the oxidized side of said first polymer sheet with said second polymer; - drying the resulting two-component substrate; - cutting the dried two-component substrate into fibers of desired size.

Description

technical field [0001] Fiber-containing composites have been widely used in, for example, coatings, floor coverings, tires, synthetic leather, and cementitious or inorganic binder composites for reinforcement, crack control, and shrinkage reduction. The handling of such fibrous products is often difficult when staple fibers or staple fiber bundles or fiber filaments generally having different lengths are used or have to be metered in and mixed into the composite mixture. Fibers have the property of assembling into fiber balls, fiber clusters or fiber nests, so they generally exhibit low dispersion in mixtures. Especially when applying small filaments such as microfibers, the corresponding dispersion of the fibers in the inorganic binder slurry is challenging. This problem is most pronounced with short polymeric fibers of commercial interest due to better durability than steel fibers. [0002] Chopped fibers are used in various applications such as textiles, nonwovens, carpet...
