Problems solved by technology

In the case of compositions containing dialkylquaternary cationic surfactants, it has been found that it is difficult to stabilize the product against flocculation or phase separation due to the interaction of the ingredients
[0005] Accordingly, there is currently a technical problem with regard to the stable formulation of highly alkaline cleaning compositions containing effective levels of quaternary nitrogen-containing detergents.

Embodiment

[0056] Aqueous compositions comprising nonionic surfactants and to a lesser extent cationic surfactants were prepared in Table 1 below: The following materials were used (all ingredients are given in wt% unless otherwise specified):

[0057] NONI: NONIDET 91-6T (TM (trade name): produced by Shell Corporation of Japan): a C9-C11 ethoxylated alcohol with a degree of ethoxylation of 6 moles and topping to reduce low ethoxylation content of chemical components,

[0058] VBM: behenyltrimethylammonium chloride (manufactured by NOF Corporation),

[0059] DIGOL: Butyl Digol(TM): Diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether,

[0060] AMP: 2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol,

[0061] CTAB: cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (produced by BDH),

[0062] DEA: Diethanolamine

[0063] CARB: potassium carbonate

[0064] POL: PVP K-90 (TM, produced by International Specialty Polymers)

[0065] 2HT: NISSAN CATION 2ABTN (TM, produced by NOF Corporation): di-hardened tallow (base) dimethyl ammonium chloride. ...

example 1,。 example 2 and 5,VBM to 80℃Heidolph80℃2h,15.5wt%。,(80℃), to 、,10min。 example 3

[0068] In the case of Example 1, all ingredients in the required quantities were mixed at room temperature. Examples 2 and 5, VBM was added to hot water at 80°C and stirred with a Heidolph mixer at 80°C for 2h, resulting in a 15.5 wt% solution. Subsequently, take the required amount of the above solution (while still at 80° C.), add it to the required amount of the room temperature solution containing all the remaining ingredients, and then the solution is stirred for another 10 min. Example 3, an equal amount of nonionic surfactant (NONI) and dihardened tallow (base) dimethyl ammonium chloride were melted together at 60°C. Take the required amount of the above-mentioned blended melt, (while still at 60° C.) and add to the required amount of a room temperature solution containing all the remaining ingredients, and the solution is stirred for another 30 minutes. Example 4, all ingredients in the required amounts were mixed at room temperature. Then, the solution was rapidly h...

example 8

[0082] From the above, it can be seen that the cleaning of the surface by Examples 6 and 7 requires less effort and the surface energy after cleaning is changed to prevent or reduce resoiling. Example 8, in particular, was less effective at cleaning heat aged soils. The formulation of Example 9, although capable of attacking heat aged soils used for ETh determinations, performed poorly as a general purpose cleaner. Example 10 is acceptable but preferably contains no carbonate.

Abstract

The specification discloses improved compositions which both clean a surface and are believed to deposit thereupon a layer of cationic surfactant which assists the release of soil subsequently deposited upon said surface. These comprise a surfactant mixture, wherein said surfactant mixture itself comprises: a) at least 65 wt.% on total surfactant of nonionic surfactant; b) less than 1 wt.% on total surfactant of anionic surfactant; c) 0.1-35 wt.% on total surfactant of a cationic surfactant which is a mono fatty alkyl quaternary ammonium compound wherein the alkyl chains comprise at least 10 % of C[18]-C[26] alkyl groups; wherein said composition further comprises, at least 0.5 wt.% of an organic amine having a pKa of at least 8.0.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to alkaline cleaning compositions for hard surfaces wherein said compositions comprise both aliphatic alkyl cationic surfactants and nonionic surfactants. Background of the invention [0002] In traditional cleaning of hard surfaces such as wood, glazed tile, painted metal, after removal of soil with surfactants or predominantly solvent-based compositions, varnishes, waxes or polishes are applied as a barrier operation to seal and It is known to protect surfaces and retard the rate of soil redeposition. This 2-step operation consisting of cleaning and sealing is time-consuming and cumbersome. [0003] A variety of detergents including polymers, silicones, and dialkylquaternary cationic surfactants have been proposed for incorporation into cleaning compositions to provide supplemental cleaning. The stain remover is believed to do this by depositing a layer of polymers, silicones or surfactants on the surface during cleani...
