An unmanned aerial vehicle delivery system utilizes an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to deliver packages between an initiation point and multiple delivery points at a raised elevation. The UAV flies between points in an organized manner, using logistical, maintenance and safety software, commands from a delivery organization, and guidance tools to coordinate deliveries. One advantage of the system is that the UAV engages the delivery points at a raised elevation, rather than the ground level. The UAV docks through an elevated structure at the delivery point for delivering the package and replenishing a power source. The package is conveyed from a docking end and through a central shaft of the elevated structure by means of an elevator. The package then travels to a lower structure, such as a house or office, for pickup. After completion of the delivery, the UAV replenishes its power source and / or continues on the delivery route.

The invention discloses a preparation method of a quaternary ammonium salt polymer antibacterial agent and a silver-loaded compound antibacterial agent thereof on the basis of an ATRP method. According to the method, various monomers are grafted onto initiation points of an initiator through atom transfer radical active polymerization, a high molecular polymer is obtained, ring-opening reacting is conducted on the high molecular polymer, and an antibacterial agent polymer framework material can be obtained; different modifications are conducted on the antibacterial agent polymer framework material, and a quaternary ammonium salt polymer antibacterial agent, a silver-loaded-quaternary ammonium salt polymer compound antibacterial agent and a silver-loaded polymer antibacterial agent are obtained respectively. The obtained antibacterial agents are low in antibacterial concentration and obvious in sterilizing effect and can be used for modifications of the surfaces of glass sheets, polystyrene and the like by combining the adsorption property of dopamine to form a surface antibacterial polymer brush. The antibacterial effect of the antibacterial agents is obvious, and high commercial potential is achieved.

Multi-perf fracturing process

A method is shown for fracturing a subterranean formation from a deviated well bore. A plurality of spaced fracture initiation points are created in the well bore. Hydraulic pressure is applied to all of the sets of perforations at the fracture initiation points to extend a plurality of spaced fractures in the formation in directions substantially perpendicular to the deviated well bore direction. The same perforated interval in the wellbore is shot two or more times, using a conventional perforating gun in order to achieve a desired hole count over a shorter distance. The perforating technique is combined with a pumping protocol which better insures that the fracturing fluid being pumped flows more evenly through each set of perforations upon the application of hydraulic pressure rather than the majority of the fluid entering only the first perforated interval of the wellbore.

Defrost mode for HVAC heat pump systems

A heat pump, and in particular a heat pump for heating a hot water supply is provided with an improved defrost mode. The defrost mode is actuated to remove frost from an outdoor evaporator that may accumulate during cold weather operation. An algorithm for operation of the defrost mode is developed experimentally by seeking to maximize the heat transfer provided by the refrigerant. A heating system condition is experimentally related to the heat transfer capacity. One then maximizes the average heat transfer capacity to determine the optimum initiation point for the defrost mode. Further, protections are included into the defrost mode. When the heat pump is utilized to heat hot water, methods are provided to prevent the water that remains in the heat exchanger from becoming unduly heated. In one method, the water pump may be periodically operated to move the water. In a second method, a control ensures the discharge pressure of the refrigerant leaving the compressor is reduced, and that the water pump is not stopped until that reduced temperature falls below a predetermined maximum. The temperature reduction is achieved through a dual control loop wherein a temperature that is too high results in a new desired discharge pressure. The control achieves the new desired pressure by controlling the expansion device. In another protection feature, as a control determines that the defrost mode is nearing its end, an evaporator fan is run to remove melted water from the evaporator coils, and also to ensure the refrigerant leaving the evaporator does not reach unduly high pressure or temperatures.

The present invention relates to a method of evaluating the fracture toughness of a material using the continuous indentation technique. In the method of this invention, the stress coefficient, strain hardening modulus and yield stress of the material are determined using the continuous indentation technique and, thereafter, the reduced elastic modulus (Er) of the material is calculated. The effective elastic modulus and the initial elastic modulus are calculated and, thereafter, the damage parameter is calculated using the void volume fraction. The critical elastic modulus and the characteristic fracture initiation point of the indentation depth are determined using the damage parameter and, thereafter, the fracture toughness of the material is evaluated. The present invention is advantageous in that the fracture toughness of a brittle material can be evaluated precisely using a nondestructive evaluation technique.
